This marks the spot of a 1942 Japanese internment camp. There are beautiful placards and visuals that explain what went on and why. It is a site that has been allocated for further development so is rather minimal as for something to see. It’s definitely something to feel, however. Fear drove people to harm others and the harm lasted for years. May we all come together without fear.

A beautifully maintained site that changes with the seasons. Head out every three months and get a brand new look to the site. This tells the very important and shameful story of how the United States and its people turned against their own. There is a relevant and important lesson of empathy to be learned. Walking around there are QR codes on the back of the images that tell the story of Japanese Internment from those who studied it and those who lived it. There is a tragic feeling to seeing their faces, but also a feeling of happiness in being able to see the faces of those who suffered unjustly. The JACL of Marysville, the Yuba County Historic Commission, and Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture did a beautiful job on this site and we are fortunate to have a piece of history to revisit and learn from in our community.

It should be five stars for recognizing a part of history. One of many former temporary interment camps location during WWII. Three stars for the lack of up keep, but it is a great way to learn about the experience the Japanese people had to endure during WWII.

Edit: Since last visit the Memorial has been properly maintained and looks much better.

As a resident of 25 years I am sad to say I know very little of the Japanese internment in our area. This is an excellent site to educate and connect to our past. The large rusting cutouts show the exact size of the housing each family was confined to. The photo billboards have information and images that made it all very real for me.
