Jim at Snowline provided a complete log cabin construction for me in 2002, a trailer and shop structure in 2019 and most recently an in-law conversion that is in progress. He is a transparent in all his dealings. You get a quality service with his years of knowledge and expertise, especially in dealing with El Dorado County. He has always been fair and honest and doesn't cut corners. He is NOT someone you should go to if you want to do it "outside" the permit process at the cheapest possible cost. That is not the Jim I have dealt with. A fair price for excellent work, which usually ends up cheaper since we don't have to redo anything, unless of course I wanted it changed. He also does plan and site drawings and has contacts for engineering, structural, geotechnical, survey, etc.. Solid Contractor you can count on with a lot of varied experience in renovations, houses, wineries, tasting rooms, custom work, etc.

Snowline built my remote, completely off-grid house in rural El Dorado County, a few years ago and I would recommend them (and have) with full confidence. They are builders of commercial structures and larger residential homes, so I lucked out. My project had quite a few unique features, but I also needed to keep within a budget. It started as raw land with only a pipe sticking up out of the ground for well water. No septic and no nearby power close enough to bring down to the parcel without an astronomically high cost so it needed to be powered by propane/solar.

All of the above, paired with some of the county and fire district's new (at the time) regulations, presented some surprising and often frustrating situations. Without going into a full description of it all, let me just say that Jim is extremely tenacious at problem solving obstacles that to me, seemed hopelessly impassable. Jim handled everything to outfitting the parcel with septic, fully functioning hot/cold running water, power, permits, heat and soil testing etc., to navigating the county's new and various regulations for new construction which to a layperson, seemed to require rounds of mental gymnastics and super human patience.

He drew up the architectural plans and was patient, working with me to get everything right. I was also provided with detailed timely cost reports throughout the process and a complete set of what I think are called schematics for everything; septic, well, gas and of course the house.

Jim is trustworthy, forthcoming, scrupulous, personable and of course professional. At the time I contacted Jim, he had a full calendar of projects lined up as there were multiple rebuilds in the surrounding areas due to wildfires ravaging homes (and as we all know, that is still the circumstance.) But Snowline is worth waiting for and I am ever grateful for his time and efforts, honestly can't thank him enough.

My wife and I have long dreamed of building our own house but it always seemed just a dream for the future until we got referred to Jim @snow line construction. He took our ideas and walked us through the design phase. We finished the design phase with a set of plans that fully encompassed what we wanted. Even some of the one off/crazy ideas we thought couldn't work he was able to roll into the design. 6 months later the project is fully framed and moving along quicker than we had anticipated. The quality of the subs work has been top notch and Jim is on site daily checking on progress. We couldn't be happier and would highly recommend him for any large projects.

We have had Snowline do 2 additions to our house and on both projects we were very pleased. Not only does Jim do quality work but his vision and suggestions for use of space available is amazing......so many things that we didn't even think of that Jim spotted right away and the results were beyond our expectations. He added two bedrooms for our kids which required a total demo of our vaulted ceiling and then added a 500 sf master bedroom, bathroom, office space which included a gas fireplace and deck with French doors. One of the best suggestions was using a sound proofing material for our walls and floor to minimize the noise from the rest of the house and the garage which is directly under our bedroom. We have 3 kids and they can make a lot of noise and when they have friends over is when we head to our bedroom, close the door and put on a movie and enjoy the peace and quiet that was a result of Jim's forward thinking. From A to Z Jim was a total pro and the finished product is a testament to his craftsmanship. It's not easy adding over 800 sf to a house, blowing off the roof and creating a new roof line and doing it so that the work is a seamless addition to the original structure. Well done Snowline Construction and thanks for the hand holding along the way. I would highly recommend Jim for any project!

UNRELIABLE - COMPLETE FLAKE - POOR WORK ETHIC - CHASING MONEY - POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE - Was given Jim's name as someone who could help with a remodel. Spoke to him on the phone made a plan for him to check the job site and to email him info. We emailed him he didn't respond. Two weeks later he claims he never saw the email and would come by. He finally comes by and spends our time getting all the info and has us email him again all of our ideas for the plan. After we have spent hours and a month waiting for him he says we will receive a contract from him. Then instead of a contract he randomly emails us saying a better job came along for a house and winery in pleasant valley and that he won't be able to help us after all. If this client with the house and winery had any idea of his work ethic I hope for them they are able to find someone more reliable AND PROFESSIONAL. He wasted a month of our time just to FLAKE! Now we are back to square one.
