Laguna Beach Christian Retreat - Panama City Beach, Florida

We stayed at Laguna Beach Christian retreat center in one of the beach front rooms overlooking the ocean. We were a family of 6, with four children. They had two bunks. The top bunks had no guard rails. My 8 year old (at the time) who usually doesn’t move an inch really really wanted to sleep on the top bunk. I thought who puts bunks in rooms where kids would sleep with no guard rails? Because at home she doesn’t move when sleeping I allowed it. On the second to last night we were there I heard a huge thump, WAMO! She fell off the bunk hitting her head on the concrete floor and started vomiting. She of course doesn’t remember a thing and has suffered from traumatic brain injury now 😭💔. Her personality slightly changed, she stares off into space and her brilliant mind with math and science has made her fall back about 2 grades. Her memory is no longer solid and she was the first to get concepts lightening fast. Now I have to explain things over and over. I should sue this retreat center for not caring enough to put guard rails.

Also, the cleaning staff are lazy and nothing was well kept. They had an elevator that worked sometimes and other times you would get stuck in it. It was not at all worhh the the money, especially because their negligence caused suffering to my poor sweet child who once had a brilliant mind 😡😭💔

-------In response to the center responding to this post. We brought things to your attention while there (2023) and you didn't do anything about it. Your staff has an "I don't care" attitude. They were more interested in walking around trying to look busy. Also, if you care, you will not pray for me, you will put up guard rails on your bunks!!! We know people who go to stay there, I'll be inquiring of them asking if you put up guard rails. Or I'll just call your establishment to see if it actually happened. Then your "I care" will have substance. Also, according to others, your elevator has been out for quite some time with the same response, that the "parts are on their way". Do you tell them to lie? Shame on you!!!!!

The beach is a 3 minute walk away, and if you don't want to deal with waves, they have heated pools! Also you have a kitchen in your room but if it's not big enough for you you can get a private kitchen with a dining room. Nice old fashioned simple rooms for 5-6 people and you can rent more than 1 for big trips but if you want to share rooms you can rent bigger ones too! Although the guests, while we were there, were not the nicest...

I just happen to be reliving old memories from around 10 years ago and remembered my experience at this place. aside from feeling like I could have almost been SA'ed in the shower of one of the room bathrooms by one of the chaperones not affiliated with my church who were bunking with our group, I loved every day of this retreat! The people were fun to meet and interact with, and the worship band in the auditorium at night had great harmony. The food hall tasted great, and the free activity time was nice as they allowed us to go to the beach or hang out at the pool or snack bar. Beach Freak 2013 I think was my grouping since I've long since lost most of the pictures taken. Much love to the Laguna Beach guys who helped put together those camps and provided all the activities, you all are really doing God's work to help spread his love and word to those who are willing to listen and accept him.

Great place to stay! Great communication and service ! We stayed at David's house. One bedroom could use updated bunk beds ! House could use more seating in the living room. House sleeps 20, but has seating for 6 in the living room. Nice and open kitchen/dining/ living room! Great place for large families! Reasonable prices! Easy walk to the beach! Heated pools nice and warm in the winter! Very safe place to stay! Loved the volleyball and basketball!

We love Laguna Beach Christian Retreat and have been going for 15 years with our family and friends and have stayed in most of their houses. This was our first time in the Moses house and it was perfect for our Thanksgiving trip with extended family. We had 4 families stay there and had plenty of room to spread out and be comfortable. There are doors to outside from almost every room which we loved. The bedroom balconies and the huge deck is perfect for watching the sunset and sunrise. The kitchen had everything we needed. We will definitely try to get this house in the future when traveling with a larger group.

The day we got there the power was out and the lift station was not working. Our house had three toilets, but none of them were usable for most of the day, and we had 16 people there. Later in the day, two were usable, but the third had leaked all over the floor into the bedroom with bunk beds. The carpet was soggy, and it smelled pretty bad. It was Christmas Day, so not a good day to have issues. We texted the main office, left voicemails. Someone came over initially, early, but they couldn't do anything. No one came over to check to see about resolving the problem later in the day. I finally called and talked to a person, and then someone came over quickly. They used a carpet cleaner in the wet spot, but it didn't take away the smell, and we ended up not using that toilet. That affected our feelings about the accommodations. If that hadn't happened, I would have given it 4 stars. The proximity to the beach was wonderful, nice people, and the heated pools were nice.

Really nice place to stay. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Lots of things such as basketball goals and a sand volleyball pit to help pass the time. The heated pool was wonderful. Everything here is clean and well kept. I look forward to coming back again.

My family and I have been multiple years now, and it never disappoints. It’s perfect for large groups of friends or family. Our children absolutely love all of the amenities offered including Gaga ball, basketball, volleyball, and heated pools! They never run out of things to do! Not to mention the breathtaking beach just a short walk away. We love Laguna and look forward to more memories made there in the future!
