There is a scene in the movie 'Dogma' in which the fallen angel Bartleby responds to a certain church being referred to as a "House of God" by loudly proclaiming "God's house? God doesn't live here anymore! He's grown weary of your superficial faith! He's turned a deaf ear to your lip- service prayers!"
While he was referring to a particular Catholic church when making that condemnation, he could just as easily have been describing the current state of First United Methodist Church of Lake Alfred.
First United Methodist Church of Lake Alfred was once a strong, thriving church and true house of God, a real cornerstone to the entire community. I faithfully served there for years in several capacities. Now, however, under its current leadership, it is a crumbling, dying husk of what it once was. Its once- thriving youth group dwindled down to nothing years ago, its attendance in general has been dropping precipitously, and you'd have better luck finding a leprechaun than finding a current regular attendee of that church who is under 55 years of age. Never a good sign if you're hoping your church could have a future.
The only community outreach ministry it doesn't seem to have discontinued is its dumpy old thrift store, which is only open a couple days a week.
Its current leadership, ESPECIALLY its Staff- Parish Relations Committee, are cruel old hypocrites who have repeatedly in recent years made it clear that they prioritize money over loyalty and fellowship. These skewed priorities have led to them betraying and screwing over many people, myself included, in the name of saving a few bucks. I'm sure that's TOTALLY the mindset Jesus would have! Or, is it perhaps more like something out of Judas Iscariot's playbook?
The only reasons why I am not giving First United Methodist Church of Lake Alfred 1 star out of 5 are because it used to be a good church and because there are still one or two good, Godly people there. How long those few remaining good people will stay there before either passing away (Again, good luck finding a regular attendee there under 55) or leaving of their own free will as I did recently, God only knows.

Last year, members of this congregation drove supplies to us at Trinity Lutheran Church in Panama City, FL after Hurricane Michael. We are extremely grateful and thankful for your generosity and support for our community. Our food bank is still open and helping those in need because of partners like you - Thank you very much!

This is a country feel church that makes you feel at home. We arrived late as I searched for a place to get a quick bite and nothing was close. They are building a Dunkin donuts and I think a Hardee's in walking Distance. Kind of a drive from our Del Webb home. Currently playing in a Worship Band but its all Contemporary. My wife is looking for traditional music. It's my second experience with a female pastor. Her message was on point and as I looked around no one had thier eyes shut.
