I am a homeowner builder and rely on the integrity of the professionals I hire. El Dorado Truss shortened the trusses submitted by my structural engineer abandoning a critical structural member. The trusses delivered did not match approved building plans. El Dorado Truss did not specifically contact the structural engineer to resolve the misunderstanding of the design intention, nor did they specifically declare that they were changing the design to anyone outside their own circle. They embedded their changes in a larger drawing without even a callout or highlight of their change.

This resulted in the framers being unaware that the trusses were not sized per building department approved drawings resulting in wasted time and materials, and extra expense.

El Dorado Truss sums the miscommunication as both a failure on the structural engineer to design in a way that El Dorado Truss was familiar, and a failure of the engineer to inquire whether the trusses would be built to plan. El Dorado Truss also blamed the homeowner's ability to read their structural drawings and catch changes that were not called out as changes.

Wouldn't a responsible fabricator contact the design engineer or project manager and specifically advise that they could not design per plans and intended force structural changes to the rest of the structure?
