Had a great time! If you want to catch fish, enjoy beautiful surroundings, and be away from the crowds, this is the place to be. Nick is one of the finest lodge owners/captains/guides with whom I've ever had the pleasure of fishing. (And I've been to many lodges in Alaska). I also watched Nick have infinite patience with all his clients especially those who were new to fishing - all ages.
I also enjoyed getting to know Bear, the chef & a very interesting person, and who provided delicious meals.
I look forward to returning. Thank you, Nick & Bear!

I recently took my son-in-law on a three-day trip in June to Nick’s lodge. It was three days of non-stop, productive fishing. Nick has been guiding trips in Larsen Bay for years and clearly knows where the fish are and how to catch them. We were especially successful in catching halibut each morning as most folks on board caught their limit within the first hour or two before we moved on to other fish in other locations. Nick is a personable and easy-going guy who is at equally at ease with with experienced outdoorsmen or newcomers like me. Everyone had a good time and was able to bring home coolers of fish. The days were well-organized, the lodge food was delicious and plentiful (crabs fresh from the bay!), and the fishing was memorable. Nick’s affordable rates are the best in the area and worth every dollar. We had an amazing time in a beautiful spot with a great guide.

I took my 13 year old son to Larson bay for a three day fishing trip with Captain Nick. It was a great time start to finish. Nick is a pro when it comes to finding fish! He had us on the fish within minutes of dropping lines in the water. It was non-stop action all day. He had productive spots for Halibut, Cod, Rockfish, and Salmon.

In addition to the great fishing Nick provides a very enjoyable atmosphere and overall experience. He was patient and accommodating with my son while fishing. He went out of his way to point out wildlife and other points of interest and would pause so we could take pictures of the beautiful Alaskan backdrop. We set a couple crab pots and found them full of tanner crabs, which were a great addition to the fresh caught fish and from scratch meals that chef Bear cooked up for dinner each night.

I have been on many charter fishing trips. Fishing in Larson bay with Nick stands out as one of the best that I have been on. I would definitely recommend making the trip to fish with Nick and plan on making a return trip!

Nick runs a small operation but this doesn’t mean you won’t be treated great. Nick is a local and knows the water well. He puts you on the fish - whichever you tell him you’d like to catch. It’s virtually non stop action until you say let’s do something else (or you limit out). Don’t be surprised if he inflates your expectations for fishing at every other place you’ll ever fish. And his beautiful Collie named Sarah will greet you at the end of each day of fishing!

Captain Nick and Chef Bear are two outstanding hosts! I was very fortunate to get up to Larsen Bay at the end of September and stay at Driftwood Wilderness Lodge. I couldn’t be happier with my choice! Every day we maxed out our limit on Halibut within the first hour or so of getting to Nick’s spot. This gave us enough time each day to try to target different species, Nick would have us call our shot and would put us on those fish. Like I said, we caught more halibut we knew what to do with, we also targeted and caught Linn Cod, Rock Fish, Pacific Cod, Crab, Silver Salmon and King Salmon.||We spend most days on the boat going to Nick proven fishing grounds, but Nick also has a knack for finding the new spots. One day after we limited out on Halibut, we were itching to get hooked up with some King Salmon. Although the season was mostly over for King’s, Nick had some tricks up his sleeve and was able to get us trolling for King’s and within the first 10 mins had a decent size King on the line. After an hour of trolling, we brought in 3 more King’s, all very large and an absolute blast to fight. But while we were trolling for Kings, Nick is always looking. So, after we were done trolling, Nick wanted to try out a rock bed he spotted when we were tooling around. We dropped 4 lines, and all 4 hooked up right when they hit the bottom, Linn Cod on all lines!||Although the fishing was amazing on the open ocean, my favorite day was the river fishing for Silver Salmon. Again, we were a little late in the season, but if there are fish in the river, Nick will find them! We hiked up the river though bear country until we found Nick’s fishing hole. Not going to lie, it’s a bit of a hike up the river, but you will not be disappointed. Spot fishing for Silver Salmon while walking up a river on Kodiak Island is one of the best experiences of my life.||So, with the fishing done each day, what were we to do with all this fish (besides the 50 lbs we each set aside to bring home), that’s where Chef Bear comes in! After long days of reeling in giants, there is nothing better than coming back to the lodge and smelling what Bear is cooking up in the kitchen. Every meal was amazing! If we had some luck with the crab pots, we got fresh steamed crab legs that night, just as a started. Some of the highlights of Bear’s cooking include; Baked Halibut, Fish & Chips (Linn Cod), Seafood Hash, Beef and Bison enchiladas, biscuits and gravy, breakfast burritos, even the simple lunches he made us for on the boat were well thought out and more than enough for all of us. I would go back to DWL just for Bear’s cooking and hospitality.||I want to thank Captain Nick and Chef Bear for all they did for us, they are great hosts and good people! I would recommend Driftwood Wilderness Lodge to any person that is looking for great fishing, spectacular views and is willing to gain a few extra pounds.||Thanks again Nick for the best fishing trip I have ever had, so far. I will be booking my trip back to Larsen Bay and Driftwood Wilderness Lodge real soon.

Nick and his crew did absolutely everything in their legal power to ensure we had great time. I feel unlike the rest of the lodges in the area Nick isn’t just after your money and genuinely cares about showing you a good time. The the camp cook ā€œBearā€ is next to none, he makes great home style meals and is all around a very interesting guy! We will be back soon, and trust me if your interested in hunting, fishing or exploring the Larson Bay Area of Kodiak Island please give Nick a call. He’s a straight shooter and won’t makeup a bunch of garbage just to make a sale.

Driftwood Wilderness Lodge is a bucket list type experience. Nick and his chef Bear make you comfortable while you limit out of n halibut salmon and cod everyday. Once you limit out on fish, time to check the crab traps and then you work with Captain Nick on cleaning the fish so you can bring home copious amounts of delicious fish home. The beauty and vastness of nature takes your breath away.||Only issue I had was the meals were so good that I gained some weight in the trip. Would highly recommend if you are interested in a a true wilderness experience.
