Staying at Zachar Bay was nothing short of incredible! Waking up to home cooked breakfast by the host family while overlooking the Pacific was breathtaking. Andy and his family were incredibly accommodating and made everyday a new adventure.
We enjoyed boating, fishing for halibut, cod and salmon/trout fishing along the river. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a Kodiak Bear. An often overlooked part of the trip was the seaplane to and from the lodge! Look in any direction from above and see Fin Whales in the ocean or mountain goats scrambling up the nearby cliffs.
Finally, I would strongly recommend hiking the mountain surrounding the property. Challenging terrain but the Eaton family members are experienced climbers.
This was really the trip of a lifetime!

Our family of five (my husband, two adult children, one child’s partner and me) had a fantastic trip to Zachar Bay Lodge in August 2024. It was like going to a comfortable summer camp again. Each of us LOVED it.

We felt welcomed into the Eaton family immediately and enjoyed spending time with each family member. The brother of the owner flew us to the camp and they did back flips to get us there in spite of the weather.

The scenery is incredible. We have travelled a lot and have never been to a more stunningly beautiful place.

We spent most of our time in the boat halibut fishing. We had a great time fishing. Caught lots of yummy halibut which they packed up for us to take home (all nicely filleted). We saw lots of wildlife including whales, otters, bears, and a wide variety of birds.

We had our own cabin with four bedrooms and two baths. It had plenty of hot water and the beds were comfortable (important to me since I have back problems).

The place was fascinating. Very remote on a gorgeous bay. The camp is built around an old abandoned fish cannery. Lots of photo ops between the scenery, wildlife, and the cannery.

Starting from the float plane ride to the lodge, the views were incredible!
We were warmly welcomed by the Eatons and our family was so ready to see what Zachar Bay had to offer.
Upon arrival, we got a full tour of the lodge and learned many fascinating facts about the history of how Zachar Bay Lodge became and even toured the museum the Eatons made. ZBL is a true historical gem!

We went fishing and caught halibut and cod. One of the halibut was 45 lbs! We were thrilled at our catch of the day!
We hiked around the lodge, beach combed and found sea glass and sand dollars. Very cool! We even collected drift wood off the beach and cooked a dinner over our beach fire.
We had lots of healthy delicious food made from scratch. One of the nights we had Fish n Chips from the fish we caught that day!

Our bunk house was cozy and had all of the essentials to assure our stay was hospitable.
The Eatons are full of knowledge and will provide you with the ultimate Alaskan experience and memories that last a lifetime!

My father has stayed at Zachar Bay Lodge 8 times already and has no intention to go anywhere else.
The success rate in the fishing is incredible because Andy knows exactly where the fish are. So you can even be picky and throw the ones that you don’t like back in.
Andy will stay on the water with you all day and show the surrounding nature if you’re interested.
The rooms are very nice and neat and very clean. The food is wonderful, because Andys wife is a great chef. This is a family business and everyone involved puts their heart and soul into creating an exceptional experience for the guest.

Also I would like to add, that Andy is really adaptive to language barriers. My dad doesn’t speak English but they always manage to understand each other. He takes very good care of him. So in case you are not speaking the language – don’t fear booking a trip to Andys Lodge. Andy will manage!

It was Yet Another Amazing Adventure with the Crew at Zachar Bay Fishing Lodge. This was our second visit and what a Great Place to come back to. Andy and Chris are Pros when it comes to the Fishing end of our visit and Lin is one Special Lady in the Galley…. If I only had one word to use to describe the meals it would be DELICIOUS! Like Lin would say, you come as guests but, leave as family…. If you want a fun fishing experience and an exquisite cuisine…Try Zachar Bay Lodge, you’ll be Happppy that you did !

We enjoyed 4 days at Zachar Bay Lodge and it was the fishing trip of a lifetime. I went with my two adult sons and my oldest friend and the experience could not have been better. We spent two days on the bay fishing for halibut and cod and two on the Zachar River going after silver salmon. Each day we caught our limit and were catch and release for half of the time. Fishing for silvers on the Zachar has ruined us for other river fishing.|Andy and the gang were personable and helpful, going out of their way to make our stay the best it could be. The Lodge is isolated, but very well maintained. The food was excellent...I hadn't counted on the 10 pounds that I gained on the trip.|If you want a singularly great and unique Alaska fishing experience, you can't do better. We're already planning on the next trip.

Excellent four day fishing trip to Zachar Bay Lodge. Day one of our fishing trip to Fraser Lake and Kodiak bear viewing was unbelievable. The next three days of ocean fishing was awesome and also the killer whale viewings while fishing was spectacular. The guiding was superb the friendly atmosphere at the lodge also was superb. Our lodging was awesome and all our meals were excellent. We couldn’t have asked for a better hospitality.

We had a fabulous time, starting with a float plane ride from Kodiak City. Our first day of the Wildlife package included Kodiak bear viewing at Frazer River, which was the highlight of our entire vacation. Day two was a nice private boat trip to see sea life, including a fin whale, otters, puffins, seals, etc. Also got some fishing in, catching halibut and cod. Day 3 involved hiking along the Zachar River, with lots of bald eagles and optional fishing. The facilities were comfortable, and the company and food were fabulous. Couldn't have asked for more!
