We love our Land O Lakes Community. Schools effect the students and who we chose to become. Speaking of students Mac Daddy is a mower shop and we are interested in hiring long term mechanics, and computer geeks that can type super fast. We are a local business and support the schools in our community. Our son went to LOL high school. He turned out to be a productive member of society.

This is in reply to the English chap and a general feedback. To the English transfer student ... Most students will think you are "cool" and will likely want to be your friend. Florida is a mix of US cultures and LOLHS tries to enforce a set of consistent boundaries but otherwise, let the kids grow through their own view. As a parent of a child that moved from out of state, I can definitively say that LOLHS is focused on academic success. Athletics survives mostly off of fundraisers, as does other non-academic activities such as Choir and Band. They have no Orchestra. This is a school of students from hard working blue collar and white collar mid-management families. Of course there is a wide distribution that includes wealthy and low-income, but the main bulk and therefore the main "culture" comes with a "earn as you go" mentality.
With respect to the school administration, there is a strong leader in Mr. Mellin, LOLHS Principal, who seems to cut through the crap and get things done. Unfortunately, if you have to work with him then things have gotten pretty bad, or maybe you just have gotten super lucky and he is able to work with you.
You will be able to find a group of friends if you want friends, or be left alone if that is your desire. There is bullying but much of that seems to be targeted towards students that have been there for many years and they know each other and have history. Like with most other public schools, some teachers are worthless in their jobs, but it seems that LOLHS has a higher percentage of teachers that actually care and invest in their students than other schools. I would estimate 8 out of 10 of your teachers will be good. Of course, that leaves 20% of them that should fired. But that is school politics, and that is the reason you go to Mr. Mellin if there is a real problem that is not getting resolved.
The school is growing and building, every year and every grade seems to have its problems. Overall, the school focuses on the most important priority: getting students prepared for future careers and future education. Safe travels English chap 😀

LOLHS is one of the top high schools in the us. If you are not involved in your child's life it is your own fault for the outcome. LOLHS is a great school. Many kids in the area want to attend the school because if its A rating. Great athletics and educational staff.

I currently go to this school. It is absolutely TERRIBLE, the school is very old and needs a thorough cleaning to get any mold in it, out. A number of people have complained that during their years at this school that they have suffered from asthmatic symptoms due to the buildings poor conditions. Also, the internet. They might as well not even have internet because of how bad their signal is. I'm currently taking classes that require the use of a computer, and the weak connections make it difficult to complete some of the simplest of tasks on a computer. Plus, the administration practically stalk the hallways looking for someone they can yell at or catch breaking rules. Yes its understandable that they have to keep an eye out for things of that sort, but when they go out of their way to personally see to ruining people's days for some of the most absolute minuscule things, (A girl's shoulder showing, guys snapping their snapback hats to their belt loops, kissing your girlfriend/boyfriend on the cheek or even just a quick peck on the lips, eating in class, drinking any other substance than water in class, standing next to a friends lunch table and talking to them when there is no place to sit there, someone wearing a hat because of a bad hair day, apparently a metal nail file is a weapon, and zebra masks on animal day during school spirit week is a big offense) If you have to go to this school, I'm terribly sorry. All I can say is find some friends quickly, stick with them, do your best to mind your own business, and if you can't be good, be good at it, and don't get caught, because the administration won't take it lightly. I went to school here in the 70s. It opened in 1976 and I was in 7th grade there because it was land o lakes jr, sr, high then because we didnt have a middle school back in the 70s. Im 51 now and I remember how negative some people can be when I read these reviews. Life is what you make it! Stop blaming everyone else and choose to be a winner or go through life pointing your finger.

I was class of 94. The school was rough around the edges but it makes men out of mice. I had a lot of good teachers. The school was not perfect but it was awesome.

Parents, save your child the trouble and enroll them elsewhere. This School is infested with cockroaches, mold, and wanna-be Rednecks.
